Day 85 – Grand orange finale

If you have been reading thus far, you would know by now I adore orange flavoured chocolate and so thought to finish the year with this stunner of a bar:

Galler – Pure Cocoa Orange is nicely sized dark chocolate bar with a thick chocolate layer and a creamy orange filling. This is how they describe it –

This dark chocolate bar has a delicate, lightly sugared cream inside. The pieces of candied orange add an additional texture that brings a certain structure to the crunchiness of the chocolate and the mellowness of the cream, reminding us of the candied fruits of Provence.

This chocolate bar also represents a marriage of two kinds of bitterness : the warm bitterness of the cocoa and the fruity bitterness of the orange. The cream harmonizes this union.

It’s not the most poetic of descriptions, but it is indeed accurate and it was scrumptious! The cream was light and fluffy and the firm dark chocolate perfected the union. I guess these Belgian chocolatiers know what they’re doing. Thanks Jean Galler!

Day 84 – Gee whizzer

The name of this chocolate made me smile so I bought it. As a typical consumer, I walked around the shop and it wasn’t until I was at the checkout counter that I picked these up. Strategic product positioning yep.

Whizzer’s chocolate beans are dairy free, gluten free and wheat free! With no artificial colouring, they don’t sport the bright red and blue hues of M&Ms, but earthy tones of turmeric, cooper chlorophyllin, caramelised sugar syrup and beetroot juice. Yes, all natural.

The shell is superbly crunchy and subtly sweet, and the chocolate is more on the dark side so it’s not all melty-like. There is a distinct taste that lacks the artificial sweetness of similar chocolate beans, and it’s incredibly more-ish, as I just finished the packet and it’s not even 9am. Oh dear!

Day 83 – Rice + chocolate

Kallo is a great brand for rice cakes, I know it doesn’t float everyone’s boat, and to some, it has the consistency of cardboard… but maybe these ones will change your mind:

Organic dark chocolate rice cake treats uses 59% dark chocolate, and they actually were really good! I had them from the fridge, so they were chill and the chocolate was firm and you seriously can eat a lot of them without feeling so bad.

Day 82 – Prisoner of chocolate

I don’t quite get Awfully Chocolate’s image. I get that it’s minimalistic, simple and unique. And part of their mission is to do just that. But it really doesn’t make me want to go in there and try it. Maybe next year.

*By the way, it’s an ice cream shop.

Day 80 – Never too much chocolate

Again another day that featured a number of chocolates including a muscle milk chocolate protein shake, Lindor milk balls, the delicious 85% Lindt chocolate dipped cookies from day 79 and these two additions –

Belgium’s Cupido – Extra dark Chocolate Sticks 72% look rather understated as a fine dark chocolate brand, but they were surprisingly very very good! The sticks were the right size to allow the enjoyment of a few sticks happily without feeling like you’ve over indulged in too much chocolate. Their mint dark sticks look amazing too!

A classic gift box, Hawaiian Host’s chocolate covered macadamia nuts are probably one of the most famous chocolates for these nuts. The milk chocolate is sweet and smooth and the nut adds a good crunch to the bite. I love macadamia nuts, and although I wouldn’t choose these myself, I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to have them as they are tasty and definitely more-ish!

Day 79 – Chocolate dipped

Merry Christmas!

Today’s many chocolates included homemade gluten free almond cookies dipped in 85% Lindor dark chocolate…

Amazing! I couldn’t stop eating these, even after an early Christmas brunch and massive Christmas lunch. They were matched perfectly with a cuppa coffee, and I ended up having two cups just so I could eat more of these delicious cookies!
