Day 377 – Gluten free please

After a big brunch lunch, I ordered a long black and decided I wanted something sweet to go with it. The cabinet had an array of delicious items but nothing was labelled gluten free so I had to ask them which ones I can could enjoy. The first thing she said was chocolate torte and I didn’t listen to the rest.

It was served with a potter of cream and dusted icing on top and was suburb! I forgot how full I was and ignored the conversation going on, and ploughed into it!! I was definitely full and equally satisfied by the time I had finished.

Day 259 – Oranginos

I am really like the Schar products and their jaffa cakes aptly called Oranginos are pretty darn good!

The cakey biscuit is a little dry but it works nicely with the gooey sweet orange filling and chocolate coating. It is matched well with a coffee. I think finishing off the box tomorrow will be easy.

Day 221 – Jaffa cakes

It’s been a while since I’ve had jaffa cakes, yes orange and chocolate, one of my favourites. Though these Free to Enjoy ones came at quite a price HK$49 for the box! Seriously? And as you can see they’re only thin little things, I had to put one out to compare the size – we felt a bit jipped. They were a little dry too. But it didn’t stop us from finishing the box very quickly, moreish little things they were. But still bloody ex.

Day 4 – Cookie monster

As far as chocolate chip cookies go, I like the soft and slightly chewy kinds, with lots of chunky choco bits… hmm think Cookietime’s Triple Chocolate Chunk! However, given my dietary requirements of consuming only wheat free foods, I have to find other options…

These are the chocolate chip cookies from Pamela’s that come in a handy mini size and resealable bag.

Being “all natural, wheat-free, gluten-free and non-diary” they are a little on the dry side, though there’s enough choco chips to keep you happy. AND because they’re so small, you keep eating them! I think I’ve just had about 12 in a go…! Had some friends who are wheat and gluten eaters try these cookies, and they weren’t very impressed. It’s a little sad that our taste buds are so tailored to certain foods particularly wheat flour, and so alternatives such as rice flour, tapioca flour just don’t seem to taste right.

I think a glass of milk and warming them up a bit would help.

Rating: can I give two ratings? 2.5/5 or in wheat/gluten free standards 4/5
